Drexel Hosts Global Health Opportunities Day
January 10, 2014
The Drexel University School of Public Health and the Office of International Programs hosted the annual Global Health Opportunities Day on Friday, January 10, 2014. The event is designed for graduate and undergraduate students, as well as alumni, interested in careers or opportunities in health-related activities overseas.
This year's event featured a panel discussion on how to enter and advance in global health that included Fred Fuentes, EdD, the Lead for Diversity and Inclusion of the Global Health Fellows Program II at the Public Health Institute; Jennifer Gottesfeld, the US Program Manager at Global Health Corps; and Meredith Mick, CEO, Foundation for International Medical Relief of Children. The panel was moderated by Shannon P. Marquez, PhD, MEng, the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Director of Global Health Initiatives at the School of Public Health.
Following the panel discussion, participants were also able to meet with numerous students who recently traveled to The Gambia (Africa), Guatemala, Nepal, Costa Rica and Israel.
The event provided an opportunity for attendees to network with global health professionals, as well as students, and gain insight and best practices on participating in public health-related work overseas.
